Top 3 Easy Recipes to Cook with Your Children

Easter is here, and while we published some outdoor events and activities to do with children you can do with your children during the holidays last week, we thought to give you some fun recipes you can cook with your children. So, grab a mini apron and dive into our kids cooking recipes.

1) Chocolate Cake

A super speedy chocolate cake, which tastes great served hot or cold…

  • Serves: 6
  • Prep: 5 minutes
  • Cook: 5 minutes
  • Freezable

 Ingredients

  • 175g sugar
  • 110ml boiling water
  • 25g cocoa powder
  • 55ml vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 55ml milk
  • 175g self-raising flour

Method

  • Put the cocoa into a small bowl or cup and pour on the boiling water, mix well
  • Microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds and then stir well again
  • Put the flour and sugar into a bowl, add the cocoa mixture, milk, oil and egg – mix well
  • Pour the batter into a greased 8″ inch wide microwave-proof dish and microwave on HIGH for 5 minutes
  • Cooking times may vary depending on how powerful your microwave is, if it doesn’t look cooked, microwave for a further minute
  • Let it cool in the dish, then top with fresh raspberries and a dollop of cream

2) Banana Strawberry Crunch

A lovely and easy recipe – a great one for the kids and makes a delicious dessert…

  • Serves: 4
  • Prep: 10 minutes

You will need: 4x ramekins – if you don’t have ramekins you can make this in one large dish

Ingredients

  • 4 digestive biscuits, crushed
  • 6 strawberries, sliced
  • 2 bananas (or 3 bananas depending on the size), sliced
  • 250g mascarpone cheese
  • 300ml crème fraîche
  • chocolate (melted – to decorate)

Method

  • Crush the biscuits and squash them into your ramekins
  • Cover the biscuits with a layer of strawberries, then layer with the sliced bananas
  • Mix the mascarpone and crème fraîche together and cover the bananas
  • Drizzle some melted chocolate over the top and then place in a fridge for an hour or until ready to serve

Tip: You can use chocolate sauce on top instead of melted chocolate if you prefer

 

3) Banana Muffins

Great for using up ripe bananas…

  • Serves: 8+
  • Prep: 15 minutes
  • Cook: 20 minutes
  • 200℃ / Gas mark 6
  • Freezable

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 150g self-raising flour
  • 150g butter (or margarine)
  • 150g soft brown sugar
  • 2 bananas (ripe)

Method

  • Preheat oven 200’C/Gas mark 6 and line a bun tin with muffin cases
  • Put all the ingredients into the food processor or hand whisk – start with butter and sugar first, then add the rest gradually until all the ingredients are in and smooth and feel light and airy
  • Put a generous portion of mixture into each muffin case
  • Pop into oven for between 12-20 mins depending on your oven
  • Allow to cool before serving

 

Tips: Add a sprinkle of brown sugar on top before baking if you’d like a crunchy topping.
