To gain insight into the prospective School it may be useful to attend the Principal’s presentation, as it can demonstrate their values and how well the school caters for all pupils. Factors such how long teaching staff stay at the school; what enrichment programmes are offered; how does the school develop a wider sense of community responsibility.
Remember to pay attention to the pupils as they are the best ambassadors. Also what does an open door policy really mean? How often does the school provide feedback on the children’s progress?
Even if the first school ‘feels’ right, visit a range of schools, particularly those where you are less interested, as you may find your child ends up in a school you hadn’t considered.
Collins and MadeForMums are two sites that provide plenty of useful information and tips for parents looking for a prospective school for their child.
